In Austin the cops will shut you down ASAP
The only thing you can get away with there legally is playing your guitar in a cubby.

The only time they allow it is when you are hired by a local festival to perform during festival hours.

They are out with a fierceness during that festival.
If you are not performing on a stage or with a pass you're outta there.

Austin is not a good busking place..

Boulder Colorado at the Pearl Street mall that's a much better place to go to make good money and be able to perform all day into the night, and if you're not using fire you don't need a permit.
If you do use fire then all you have to do is purchase insurance from Clowns of America and the permit is free. You just have to go to the city to get the permit.

What do you mean a cubby? Like a doorway? We were thinking about going out this weekend. Me and a friend busked on 6th street around 2002 with no problems (except he got arrested for MIP, but that was his fault). What about playing across from UT? We played in the hippie market there during the day, is that still going on?
